Culture Of Barbados

Barbados is often referred to as “Little England”, which reflect the strong English influence resulting from over 300 years of continuous English rule.

The Barbadian population continues to be somewhere close to 275,000 and is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Approximately 90% of all Barbadians are of African descent, with the remainder comprised of Europeans, Chinese and Indians.

English is the official language spoken, although a local dialect, a variant of English is spoken in everyday Barbadian life.

Education is highly regarded in Barbados and children are required to attend school until sixteen years old. It is noteworthy that Barbados enjoys a near 100% literacy rate.
