Economics In Barbados
In spite of recent economic downturns, Barbados has a well developed economy and Barbadians enjoy a relatively high standard of living.
In 2009, the World Bank, classified Barbados among the top economies in the world. Historically, Sugar production has been dominant, but sugar is no longer “king” as the tourism and manufacturing sectors have become more important in the economy.
The government has adopted a business-friendly stance which has encouraged foreign investments. In fact, in 2009 the European Union signed an agreement to assist Barbados with 10.13 million Euros (BDS$28 million) which will help to modernize the country's International Business and Financial Services Sector.
